Arcuton was the 'stalwart defender' of the Firstforged, obdurate and monsterously strong, a colossal being created from a mountain. According to legend his body was once part of the Equatorial Heights and his awakening created such a breach in the range that it is still recognisable as the Gap of Meteoros today. His spawnlings were known as the Arcutrons and his line of descent as the Ark Host. He is sometimes considered to be the primogenitor of the Persolidons, sometimes of the Guardians, often both. The Autobot spacecraft The Ark was named after Arcuton.

Although a loyal follower of Prima, after Armada's death Arcuton sided with Maximo. After the end of the war with the demons he became bored of the peace of the Silver Age and went to sleep deep beneath the surface of Cybertron. It is believed he is still alive, sleeping peacefully, waiting to be awoken to fight again.

The name "Arcuton", means "guardian body", is a translation of the meaning of his name from Ancient Cybertronian. In Primaltongue he was called Nkarundugun meaning "the standing pain engine exists". In Modern Autobot he is called Omsauanimin meaning "this huge place made of ten thousand strong pieces". Omsauanimin is transliterated into Murion as Omsoux Awanomdi; this is often shortened to Omsoux, meaning "strength of ten thousand". In High Legion he was called Loashoasaos, meaning "breaching the surface of vast depths and clouds". This refers to Arcuton's mountainous stature, inferring that he is so huge he cannot be sunk in the deepest depths and that his head rises above the clouds. In Modern Decepticon he is called Zubrugulanteronis, meaning "the grand shaking mountain lord" referring to both his size and also the effect of his movements.
