Time Units

Cybertronians divide time into the following units:

Units of less than one Cybertronian day:

Astrosecond 1/1000th of a breem 0.498 seconds Also called a decicycle. Cybertron's 'second'. Computing clock cycles are measured in fractions of astroseconds.
Breem 1000 astroseconds 8.3 minutes [498 seconds] The universal Cybertronian time unit and equivalent of approximately five minutes.
Groon 10 breems [10,000 astroseconds] 83 minutes The Deceptions use groon as the rough equivalent of an hour, leading to the Autobot jest that Decepticons have short attention spans. From the Early Decepticon gruoini meaning "traveling on foot". Pronounced dooma in Autobot.
Cycle 15 breems [15,000 astroseconds] 124.5 minutes The Autobots use cycle as the rough equivalent of an hour.
Joor 50 breems 6 hours 55 minutes [415 minutes] Also called a megacycle. The Murions of the southern hemisphere dispensed with sub-joor units such as groons and cycles, and used joor as their all-purpose hour equivalent.
Astrocycle 20 joors/1000 breems 138 hours [almost 6 days] The time taken for Cybertron to complete one rotation on its axis; one Cybertronian day.

Cybertronians do not use their planet's year to mark time but instead use decades - vorns - to mark time. Each vorn contains the following festivals and celebrations:

Units of more than one Cybertronian vorn:

Decavorn 10 vorns 833 years
Hekavorn 100 vorns 8,333 years
Kilovorn 1,000 vorns 83,333 years The Cybertronian calendars are measured in kilovorns.
Muroivorn 10,000 vorns 833,333 years
Poloivorn 100,000 vorns 8,333,333 years
Megavorn 1,000,000 vorns 83,333,333 years
Dekilovorn 10,000,000 vorns 833,333,333 years
Chiloivorn 100,000,000 vorns 8,333,333,333 years A time unit used mainly by astronomers and astrophysicists
Gigavorn 1,000,000,000 vorns 833,333,333,333 years A time unit used mainly by quantum mathematicians and universal physicists.
Teravorn 1,000,000,000,000 vorns 83,333,333,333,333 years A time unit used mainly by religious writers.

One terracycle is one rotation of Earth - one day. As is standard practice amongst the Autobots, on awakening on Earth they adopted the native time units to better integrate their activities with the local conditions. Thus the Autobot forces on Earth used Earth time - specifically, the clock and calender of the country they happen to be in at the time. The Decepticon army makes no such allowances and keeps to the Cybertronian calendar, only using terracycles to calculate the activities of humans.
